Working Together

by Nicolás Darricarrere

A few months ago we started building a Multi-Purpose Hall for the Permaculture Training project we are initiating with Elda Villalba and the Asociación de Permacultura Uruguay.

About once a month, we organize these “open doors” events, which we call Minka.

This activity in Inca culture was frequently used as community work for social purposes.

We were surprised by the good response from people and the special feeling on those days, where the groups always vary, but the constant is the joy, cooperation, and good energy.

On several occasions, in the middle of the workday, I stop for a minute and become an outsider observing what is happening. I see people in groups or pairs, their hands covered in mud, working, chatting, getting to know each other, and opening up to their companions.

I also see individuals, designing with their hands and thinking about who knows what matter in their life.

It is in these moments that I feel the power of unity, understanding, and connection that mud brings.

Today, more than 80 people have helped co-create this space
that will host many more people in the coming years. The
efforts of these weekends have been enormous, and the Hall is almost ready to start being used.

THANK YOU to everyone for your collaboration, and let’s keep working for the common good!
